Water fun in the Bavarian Forest

The wellness hotel Waldeck in Bodenmais invites you to an active enjoyment vacation. On particularly hot days, the outdoor pool in Bodenmais, the natural swimming pond in Drachselsried and the Osserbad in nearby Lam provide refreshment and cooling. A hike or bike ride around the small Arbersee with subsequent refreshment in the lakeside café is also nice here.

High ropes course, treetop adventure and amusement park

The climatic health resort Bodenmais is located near the Bavarian Forest National Park, the oldest national park in Germany. In addition to hiking and biking trails, you’ll find plenty of sights for the whole family – such as the high ropes course in Lam or the world’s longest treetop trail at 1,300 meters with the famous Baumwipfelei in the Lusen National Park Center.

A vacation highlight for children are trips to the nearby amusement parks – the Churpfalzpark in Loifing (approx. 50 minutes from the Wellnesshotel Waldeck) and the Bayern-Park in Reisbach (approx. 70 minutes) – or to the „Freizeitspaßmachern” in St. Englmar (approx. 40 minutes; with Waldwipfelweg, summer toboggan run, bull carts and much more). Shopping trips and cultural excursions – from the Czech Republic to Passau

Vacation, shopping and culture, combine the pleasant with the useful: It’s just 25 km to the Czech border (Bayer Eisenstein) – short enough for a quick shopping trip. There are also regular bus excursions from Bodenmais, which you can book through our hotel, e.g. to the three-river city of Passau or to Regensburg, whose old town has been declared a UNESCO Work Heritage Site.

From the Wellnesshotel Waldeck Bavarian Forest Bodenmais you can literally cycle without limits. Well-signposted bike tours lead through the Bavarian Forest region, from leisurely river bike paths to comfortable round trips, moderare long-distance bike paths to tours along former railroad roads, past old castles, palaces and monasteries, offer relaxed cycling fun for every requirement.

A total of more than 200 km of marked bike trails lead through the Bavarian Forest National Park and connect it with the Šumava National Park on the Czech side. Due to the different altitudes, the Czech national park is considered a mountain biker’s paradise. However, most of the routes are also rideable for everyone with a good touring bike and a bit of fitness.

At the intersections between cycling and hiking trails there are bicycle parking places where you can safely lock your bikes. This way, your bike tour can always be combined with a short hike through the Bavarian Forest Nature Park! And it’s really with it, because you really only discover the most beautiful and enchanting corners when hiking in the Bavarian Forest region.

The Bavarian Forest region is now one of the largest e-bike regions in Europe. Without any effort, the long and beautiful bike routes of the Bavarian Forest Nature Park can be explored with an e-bike. The Arberland and the Bavarian Forest have long been more than an insider tip among hiking enthusiasts. Few areas offer as many idyllic hiking trails, beautiful rest areas and vantage points as the vacation region around Bodenmais. Numerous circular tours, walking trails, cultural and nature trails invite you to explore and discover and make the region a versatile experience.

Quality Trail Hiking Germany

In 2007, the Goldsteig in the Bavarian Forest was awarded the title „Quality Trail Hiking Germany“. At around 660 kilometers, it is considered the longest certified long-distance hiking trail in Germany and runs in three sections between Marktredwitz and Passau. Also known as the „green roof of Europe“, the largest contiguous forest landscape between the Atlantic and the Urals, it leads high above the Upper Palatinate Forest, through five nature parks, on through the Bavarian Forest National Park and on the Czech side through the Šumava National Park.

The trail is divided into a more moderate route in the south – suitable for leisure hikers – and a route in the north – suitable for more ambitious hikers – and awaits you in each place with unique views and botanical features, as well as with exciting cultural and historical events.

Probably the most beautiful geotope in Bavaria and thus the heart of the hiking trail is the core area of the Bavarian Forest National Park. Here in the border triangle, in the immediate vicinity of the three-river city of Passau, the vast landscapes of the Danube valley and the Mühlviertel region stretch our and reward you with dreamlike views into the distance in the course of medium to difficult stages.

Increasingly easier hikes are available for those who choose the southern variant of the Goldsteig. On this section, the Bavarian Forest shows its sunny side and welcomes its visitors with an alternation of wonderful meadow paths and shady forest paths, far-reaching views and a rich vegetation in the plant and animal world.

Family hiking: Baby carriage tour Schwellhäusl

Ideal for the whole family: A leisurely hike from the Bayerisch Eisenstein Hiking Park via the Schwellhäusl to the „Haus zur Wildnis“ in the Bavarian Forest National Park. The hiking trail is easily passable all year round, even with a stroller. Just as much of an experience: the return trip with the forest railroad to Bayerisch Eisenstein.
